NO – IT’S NOT A GIRAFFE’S DRINKING TROUGH… when I was a boy growing up and we all had rain water tanks, it was obvious that the concrete bases and repairs on the sides of old corrugated iron tanks leaked and formed stalactites. The same thing is seen on concrete bridges and despite claims made by secularists and some creationists that these are not the same as cave stalactites, our extensive chemical testing in a university laboratory proves they are. This has led to us designing and installing two Stalactite Making Machines which are not designed to bore the students to death as they stand watching stalactites slowly grow over millions of years – but to show them that they actually grow in a relatively quick time.
People laughed! Some doubted? But all who were at the Open Day in October had to admit it is a fabulous success, and working far faster than we thought possible. What has amazed us is the speed at which the stalactites have grown and the simplicity of our machinery. It would certainly seem we have pulled the rug from under those who criticised our “Time’s Up Darwin” DVD section on stalactites, claiming ‘bridge stalactites are not the same as cave stalactites and we only mentioned water and lime and failed to mention CO2 which is why the cave ‘tites grow ever so slow.’
So how does our stalactite machine work? It’s an industrial grade concrete pipe cut in two, filled with 15cm/6″ of alternate layers of sea shells and cement, covered in 10cm/4″ of leaf mulch and filled with untreated dam water, which then slowly drips to produce the stalactites. What amazed us is that the stalactites and stalagmites commenced growing from day one. We didn’t have to wait months, years, or decades.
What is the role of CO2? The closest we have to any CO2 involved in this experiment is whatever is in the water as it is pumped out of the dam, plus any tiny amounts coming from degeneration of plant matter in the leaf mulch, which most likely also contributes minor amounts of humic acid after being wet only 1day and for the 6 weeks since. This would aid the solution of the lime, as well as dissolving minor quantities of iron in the re-enforcing bars, which results in the attractive red/brown stains in the resulting stalactites.
Why did I pick mulch? Having visited hundreds of caves around the world I have noticed that
the best stalactites are often found where the ground above has been or is covered in forest which is a contributor of leaf mulch/humic acid, and that cessation of stalactite growth is in my view related to the change in plant cover above the cave system, which is obviously related to climate change such as rain fall drop as well. The same chemical ‘mulch’ environment is true for many bridge stalactites, but not the industrial buildings which seem to grow ‘tites abundantly, also with no source of mulch or CO2. Our tests of all stalactites formed this way reveal they are calcite as in caves.
We are currently setting up more detailed test versions of the ‘tite maker, to check all the factors involved ..real research on God’s very real creation. We are also currently building a second generation machine designed for time lapse photography. Thanks for your support for this work which is unbelievably effective at demolishing a major hindrance to confidence in Genesis1.. the belief that ‘real’ scientist’s have proved the world is too old for the Bible to be true, a fact which these experiments expose for the lie it has always been.
So to summarise results thus far.. the key factors are not time, but water, acid and lime. Again I repeat.. “it doesn’t take time ..it takes process, and the more effective the process the less the time”. It is obvious cave guides have been taught lies to tell tourists on how long stalactites take to grow, merely to bolster Darwin and reject a God who did make the universe in just 6 days. His processes are very effective!
